The telephone lines lit up at the Polk County Sheriff's Office as word spread that a deputy and his police dog had been killed. They haven't stopped since.

After the death of Polk County Deputy Matt Williams and his K9 partner DiOGi in September of 2006 and the generous outpouring of love and donations coming in to the family of Deputy Williams, the owner of Yard Guards on Doody thought it would be nice to do something to honor DiOGi and assist other agencies K-9 units.

Boyette Springs resident Cheresee Rehart, owner of Yard Guards on Doody, a business specializing in animal waste collection, recently presented the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department with 15 bullet proof vests for its K-9 unit.

Police Dog Nabs Fleeing Gunman in Auburn

The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license during a traffic stop at Fred Meyer on Auburn Way. But the passenger ran off, pursued by the police dog, named Blitz. Spokesman Larry Miller says the fleeing man shot at the dog. But a bullet-proof vest saved the life the dog's life.
